Trewern is a large country house which has been converted into dormitory style accommodation with spacious living areas and a fully equipped kitchen. It provides an ideal residential setting for groups. We also have a self catering lodge and can offer camping in the grounds, including our semi-permanent yurts. Bookings can be made for weekend or midweek breaks (minimum occupancy – 24). We are geared up for schools, but past user groups have also included families, friends, youth groups, parties and corporate groups/events. Guests are asked to bring their own pillow cases, bed sheets, and quilt covers or sleeping bags.

Bookings are tailored to meet your requirements, whether this be self-catering, bed and breakfast or full board accommodation, with or without activities. You decide!

Main House

The main house at Trewern can accommodate groups of up to 70 in shared bedrooms, with 9 dormitories accommodating up to 10 and 4 staff/family rooms. In the main part of the house, where the office, dining room, lounge and kitchen also are, there are two floors of accommodation generally used for females. On the other side of the building, there are showers, toilets and the kit room, with one floor of accommodation above -this is generally used for males. All rooms were refurbished and new fire doors added in 2020/21, which added new accommodation options to the top floor. For residential groups there is also a small tuck shop, selling souvenirs (including the famous Trewern T-shirts) and a small selection of sweets and drinks, which is operated by visiting staff.

Our dining room is multi purpose, often doubling up as a classroom/hall, and is equipped with an interactive touchscreen that we use for teaching. We usually put a slideshow of photos from the day’s activities on over dinner, but it also offers connectivity to a range of devices. We can also offer laptops and tablets for group use as required. Next door is the lounge, with a small library, selection of toys and games, and comfortable seating.

Meals at Trewern are probably the most important part of the day, and we do our best to make sure everyone is well fed, catering to all dietary requirements. Dinner is the main event, with three courses of homecooked food every day of a fully catered stay. Breakfast is typically toast and cereal (although cooked breakfasts can be arranged), and a packed lunch is prepared by the young people themselves each morning before activities. Our meal options are created with young people in mind and menus are selected by visiting staff. At meal times, young people get involved with laying the table, serving and clearing away the meal, help with washing the dishes and generally keeping the centre shipshape.

The drying room is currently situated in the main house, and we also have a small coin operated laundry which can be used when needed.

Self Catering

See also the self catering section.

Lodge and Pod

New for 2021, we now have an accommodation block separate from the main building. It accommodates 12 in dormitory bedrooms, with one staff bedroom and has its own showers and toilets. It has a small but well equipped kitchen, spacious dining area/classroom and cloakroom area. Adjacent to the lodge is a camping pod, which can accommodate additional adults if required. Next door is the pod, for an additional member of staff, or to stand alone. Great for small groups, field studies or self catering.

Camping

We also offer camping in the grounds, either in our yurts or in your own tents/campervan. The great thing about staying in the Trewern yurts is you can have the joy of camping without having to put up your tent, with the added benefit of electricity, lights and real beds -no sleeping on the floor here! The yurts in particular can be used to increase capacity in the house when the numbers just don’t quite add up. Camping with us is also a great option if you’re planning a trip for DofE expeditions. There is an outdoor toilet block for campers and yurt-users with showers.

Recreation

Outside we have spacious gardens with small wooded areas and ponds, a fire pit, pizza oven, picnic benches and playing fields to facilitate outdoor games.

Facilities

We are extremely fortunate at Trewern to have some fantastic on site facilities for our groups to use. We have a recently refurbished pump track for BMX, a bushcraft area, archery range, climbing wall and a brand new low ropes course/teambuilding area. The climbing wall and BMX track can be used by members of the public; follow the links to find out more.
